Not Fair
A poem about how it feels to have lost someone suddenly.
By Valerie TaylorPublished 2 years ago • 1 min read
Life is not fair, they say.
Surely, they are right.
It's not fair that you died,
Leaving me to pick up the pieces
Of your life,
To shove them into the recesses of me
That were hollowed out by your death.
It's not fair that your left,
That I didn't hear your final breath.
And yet I speak of you
Every day with mine
Just to keep the memory of you alive.
It's not fair
That time marches on,
And on and on,
Taking me further from your smile,
From your motherly embrace.
It's just
Not fair.
