Life is not fair, they say.

Surely, they are right.

It's not fair that you died,

Leaving me to pick up the pieces

Of your life,

To shove them into the recesses of me

That were hollowed out by your death.

It's not fair that your left,

That I didn't hear your final breath.

And yet I speak of you

Every day with mine

Just to keep the memory of you alive.

It's not fair

That time marches on,

And on and on,

Taking me further from your smile,

From your motherly embrace.

It's just

Not fair.
