Not A Dog Park

Quietly the Geeze Graze, Until….

By Andrea Corwin Published 12 months ago 1 min read

Dog parks are for running dogs

Golf courses are for golfing

…and geese

Geese love this closed-for-the-winter course

and then

along comes a

dog, running on the fairway,

shattering the peace, sending the

geese honking, scrambling to the

water feature

to escape the four-legged fiend that

chases them

for its fun

exercise

Maybe the dog doesn’t like off-leash parks

or is frightened of other dogs

perhaps it is the owner who doesn’t like off-leash parks

Or the owner

Is

Too

Lazy

To

Drive

To

It

?? ?? ??

This golf course is considered

by the management to be a

wildlife preserve

They maintain the greens but

do not cut the surrounding brush,

it is for wildlife

not your lazy ass

and

a running dog

or child -

even if it is closed

due to winter wetness

The dog park is fenced;

golf course fairway is not.

Geese are eating.

Take your dog home to its kibble,

leash it up and stay off the fairway.

yes, it is convenient but it is not a dog park.

Note: I did not want to create a 60o word story for the Pet community, so this is stream of (angry) consciousness, free verse poem about the ignoramuses (or ignoramusi, your choice), who think it's okay to run their dogs on a golf course just because they live in the community. Don't start on me, either. I love dogs. I also like owners who respect property and pick up after their dogs; those who leash them in "leash" areas.

It sounds like my neighborhood during covid lockdown. Everyone got a dog it seemed, but they didn't seem to realize that the dog went to the bathroom, and ran all over their flowers. So they started walking them (which was good), and let them do their business in everyone else's yard (not good), they ignored the signs. I put up decorative fence around my yard, they let the dog jump it, - Don't get me wrong I love dogs, I have two of my own, but I clean up after them and keep them in my own yard and don't let them destroy other people's property. Great article and it kind of hit home for me.

I observe 5 wetlands in the spring for a national program to track returning birds and am so frustrated by parks with signs to keep dogs on leash and many owners don't. Our birds have a hard enough time but some owners just don't respect that. Most dogs are well behaved but dogs off leash can create commotions with those that are contained like my little ones. I share your distaste

A *golf course* of all places - now that is bold. 🤦‍♀️ Fantastic rant/poem, Andrea!!

"Not A Dog Park" humorously highlights the challenges and misunderstandings that arise when pet owners treat public spaces as places for dogs rather than people.

  • There's always a time and place for everything. Unfortunately, not everyone knows this 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Great rant poem, Andi! Or is it poem rant? Either way, I loved the pacing and the way the changing shape on the page led my eye to the rant of rants!

    What an intrusion!

I agree with your rant. Take him to the dog park or keep him on a leash.😁

A breathtaking weave of thoughts and emotions.

Ah, a fiery poem with no leash on its honesty! Loved the sass and the "stay-off-the-fairway" vibes. Respecting wildlife and rules—simple yet so well put. Bravo! ✨💖

Good one. By the way if you wanted to you could write that essay on PET for, I believe you are a quarter there. Talk about golf course be a wildlife preserve and the reasons why. You can do it.
