Nostalgia

The good old days

By savage writerPublished 6 years ago 1 min read

I’m about to take you aback with this poem dat’ I’m penning

It was called “Nostalgia” for a reason

As I become further astray from the past, I decided to take a train down to memory cove

In the same car that I got hit with a $75 fine on

Cuz’ of that, I had to go to court

Not every moment of my history was full of drab

I was challenged to break the curses set up for me

Boy, wasn’t I through a lot to get here, hey

Universe taught me to appreciate it, didn’t have to buy my way up the ladder

That shit is just lame to me

I put on my boots to climb, handouts weren’t being offered

A new reality is emerging if you did not know, time to place some batteries into that alarm clock

So your ass can wake the fuck up, no we ain’t talking that kind of sleep

Do I gotta tell you everything?

Use your head, fool!

Feels like a steaming hot shower after a late-night workout to be back in the early to mid-2000’s again

Life was a whole lot slower then, there were no hundreds of books published or any tortured caricatures of my choosing

I somehow knew that I’d reach an unprecedented level of greatness

But I haven’t suspected it so early, Enoch told me that Certain people are meant to wake up at a certain point

Damn, now that I think about the shit

Was literature my wake-up call?

Who would have thought that boy with the big ol’ brown eyes which can melt the soul

Could suddenly become successful as he is?

With nothing but a hot bag of airless dreams densely packed into a black North Face backpack he still carries around to this day…
