Northfork High School Champions
I still hear the crowds on what’s now resting soil,
A time when youth competed not knowing recoil.
I see them as they gather backed by fierce crowds,
Knowing in the seats we shouted victory aloud.
Out of hollers deep and valleys wide they came,
To face the battles sporting jackets the same.
It was what our school did supporting the game,
That, in time, provided trophies in frames.
There was never the likes of players before,
Who teamed together always making the score.
It wasn’t just for personal gain they proclaimed,
But to make history in championship games.
I still see them the team from our old school,
Standing center-court sportsmen not cruel.
It was a time that changed many lives it’s true,
Their names etched in time Northfork Demons blue.
Say what you will about that time long ago,
Of secrets we all knew were sports heroes.
Basketball greats there’s no mistake,
For they won every game they’d undertake.
Some have finished their journey at home now,
Their cries from the courts made us all bow.
For to have known them, gallant friends for sure,
Will linger in our memories their hearts so pure.
