Nocturnal Dance
A Poem
The Lunar Light
Shown bright upon the forest floor
And the Horned Owl's cries
Echo to the distant shores
*****
With padded foot
And steady breath
Silvery eyes stared out
From the wooded depths
*****
Sheltered by stands of pine
And breezes rustling
Birch's limbs and leaves
Mother Nature's ethereal chimes
*****
The great horned owl
Spies a feast
Tiny creatures
Flee on tiny feet
*****
Lightening fast the owl descends
Talons clutching, clasping
Tiny screams silenced
With a single squeeze
*****
Lurking in shadows
Of massive trees
Luminous crystalline eyes
Stare upon this feast
*****
Silence is the song of night
growing louder as the
Cicada sings and cricket strum
Like the steady beat of a drum
*****
Blood-stained muzzle
Bares sharpened fangs
Bathed in flesh and sinew
Breathing out warm billows
*****
Moonlight shines upon the floor
Padded prints left in dirt
Lunar Dance arcing across the night
Feline's tail curled in delight.
About the Creator
Rebecca A Hyde Gonzales
I love to write. I have a deep love for words and language; a budding philologist (a late bloomer according to my father). I have been fascinated with the construction of sentences and how meaning is derived from the order of words.
