Nobody Tells You

When you are young,

Everyone tells you to hold on tight to the time you are in,

To be a child for as long as you can,

To grasp the magic that comes so easily,

To not grow up so quickly,

Because nobody can tell you the change,

Until one day, nothing feels the same,

Nobody can tell you it is never just one load of laundry,

that you have to manage your feelings while setting boundaries,

Nobody tells you about the change in your family dynamic,

How your parent's relationship no longer seems organic,

You won't be told when you will have to help someone through something horrific,

and how you have to manage your feelings about it, separate,

Nobody will tell you how hard it is to be happy for others when you are lonely,

Then experience the selfishness and envy,

You won't be told that you never will feel truly satisfied,

How happiness is a sellable ploy, sold like a lie,

Nobody will tell you there is no truth behind any map,

Because no matter your plans, you can always fall off track,

You can't be told how much you will change within yourself,

How some days you will feel at home, and others you are someone else,

Nobody tells you that you will have to pick a path that fits your life,

But no matter where you land, it's not without sacrifice,

No one will warn you of all the losses you will encounter,

And some days all you can do is shower,

Nobody tells you about mourning the life you will not live,

No matter what you have to give,

You won't be told how you will have to handle most pain alone,

And you won't know that, till you know,

Nobody tells you to be practical over passionate,

But no matter what you choose, how you have to be your biggest advocate,

No one will tell you how hard life can be,

Nobody wants to destroy what you can believe,

Because there will be a day when all of these,

Become something you have to see.
