When a drop catches the light
You’ll see it isn’t white
But a spectrum of colours
And when you catch a snowflake
Its form will be unique
Not one like the others.
Genome investigation
Revealed endless combinations
Proving all of us off-beat.
And with every generation
We harbour fresh mutations
So there’s no chance to repeat.
Humankind is certainly
A spectrum of diversity
We’re every shape and size
That ’snowflake’ is used scathingly
By those who loathe variety
Is really no surprise.
To be adverse to difference
Is to snub our own existence
And hail monotony
If every snowflake was a clone
And every rainbow monochrome
How dull this world would be.
About the Creator
Emma Bayfield
I used to be absolutely obsessed with writing prose and even studied Creative Writing at university, but life gets in the way. I haven't written creatively for some time and my hope is that signing up to vocal will get me back in the habit.
