No Music, No Life, No Memories
Music has always been my scented time machine

Music is my go to, my inspiration, my pick me up,
My reminder to live life, move, dance, experience joy,
Escape into a world of beauty, emotion, happiness,
Relax, immerse myself into the rhythm and enjoy.
***
The fast pace of rock n’ roll,
To the dreamy songs of rhythm and blues,
Some days a little jazz,
And I’ve come to love country now too.
***
I love rebelling to the hard rock of the 80’s,
Remembering my bad girl days,
The hard pumping bass reverbs,
The excitement more than a short phase.
***
Honouring those who harvest their talents,
Especially those still performing through their age,
Dreading the day they’ll be no more,
Knowing the waste of never seeing them on life’s stage.
***
Holding fast to the history, the party hard years,
Refusing to allow that bad party girl to disappear,
She’s locked in tight with my inner child,
As she rises at a concert with the loudest cheer.
***
For those few hours she is back,
The grin on her face frozen in delight,
The years fall away as she dances and prances,
Loving the noise, the excited crowds, the lights so bright.
***
Music spans the generations,
Good rock n’ roll joins the young and the old,
A sound that’ll stand the test of time,
Bringing the audience in out of the cold.
***
Feel the beat pulsing in time to your racing heart,
The bass shivering up your spine,
The rifts sizzling in the air, static electricity,
The lead vocals echoing through the chorus line.
***
Take the tune and digest it in full,
The noise, the energy, your interpretation,
Live the excitement forever moving forward,
As it splices your cells through filtration.
***
Forever more you’ll leave part of yourself in the music,
Revisiting that part often over the years,
Memories trapped forever,
The happiness, the joys, the thrills and the tears.

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
