A story I'm glad is no longer true

What if there is no home?

The place where you grew up

Was nothing but a skeleton?

*

What if there is no home?

The memories

Are nothing but ash?

*

What if there is no home?

The sweet smell of cookies

Has wafted into thin air.

*

Is it a home

When it is broken,

Smoldering,

With nothing but heartache

And dashed dreams?

*

Is it a home

When you don’t wish to return,

You just want to walk away

And don’t care if the house burns?

*

What if there is no home?

Tired, lonely

With nowhere to go...

What if there is no home?
