Nightly Visitor
The visitor came once again last night,
Not causing turmoil nor intending fright.
It beckoned me again as it had before,
To follow it through sleep’s open door.
It’s hypnotic tones lured me away
From night’s peacefulness before the coming day.
It wasn’t the first time it called unto me,
Depriving rest with an offering of images beastly.
“Go away and leave me alone,” I plea,
Each time it tugs at my covers unceasingly.
“Find another this dream to give I pray thee,
For my mind is weary and seeks to be free.”
Yet, the visitor continues my mind to invade,
With waves of imaginary images that cascade.
There’s no end to this cycle, of mental illusions,
This visitor that brings pictures sometimes confusion.
I sit on my bed throughout the night,
Considering the conflict between flight and fight.
My efforts to no avail this mystical tussle continues,
Night after night during late hours adding no value.
These visitations, more frequent than not,
Bring terror and mystery many stories I’ve got.
If not for the visitation during the night,
I may not have a legacy of plots bringing others light.
So, let the nightly visitors come as they may,
Often lingering from the depth of night into my day.
It’s my dreams that tell the most imaginary things,
As my mind and my hands write of the struggle each brings.
