Dark Acrostic 3 - Nightmare.

Nestled in the back of your mind, something is waiting to seek you out, take you down from within

It's incognito and under the radar, eating away at you slowly, carefully, and gradually until it strikes

Gouging at your psyche, penetrating your inner self and consciousness, if only there were a way to stop it

Hastening its approach as night falls and you fall asleep, its reign of terror over you begins

That part of you, you try to forget about is encroaching on your space with a thick fog of darkness

malevolent forces take you to the pits of despair and misery; try as you might, you can't break the chains

at least it's only a dream, you try to convince yourself - but that doesn't stop the fear gripping you

reality is slipping away from you as your subconscious takes over, and there is a voice saying

even if you can escape my clutches and wake, I will get you next time you fall asleep.

This made me so thankful I almost never have nightmares. Now that I think about it, I haven’t had a single one since I moved into this place November 1st. It’s awful to imagine a reoccurrence of nightmares when sleep is meant to be a time of peace. Well done. 🖤
