A RubyRed Original Poem

there is no escape from cement-bourne memories

habits forced deep into genetics until they blend forwards with the self

a cage familiar yet no less daunting

lonely is the parrots song, despite its smiling chorus

what they know of that pretty bird is all it chooses to show

bland its eyes are,

how deep goes its pain?

no choice but to dance all the while.

help the pretty bird

but never release the cage's hinges.

no need to bend and break or shatter.

a soothing voice from the outside

invisible costs from singing each verse.

at last comes that kindness

kissing gently such as the wind's swift promises

and whispers of endless skies.

what is left, no, none should see it.

only a happy, pretty bird, singing the siren's song.

I hate seeing caged birds and believe they wish to be free. Your poem imparted part of that too!

I guess we do that, soothe, placate, but not liberate.
