Nevertheless

Growing Despite Myself

By Earl W. PearlPublished 2 years ago Updated 2 years ago 1 min read

In school I was a simple jock

And you, the smartest kid

The rumors were we’d never bond

Nevertheless, we did

You comforted my dying dad

With love borne deep inside

I know compassion is your gift

Nevertheless, I cried

Some tend to keep things bottled up

That’s not for me, I won’t

It’s said some secrets must be kept

Nevertheless, we don’t

If fervent love is all you charge

I’ve come to pay the bill

I’m not a very wealthy man

Nevertheless, I will

The joy we have for each alone

Now multiplies by two

You feared I’d never want a bride

Nevertheless, “I do”

love poems
