Never Let Them Go

That’s my advice, for what it’s worth

We have all heard the stories of angels

The fairytales that we grew up hearing,

But would you believe, if you were told

The tales are true, as you were fearing.

***

Of all the stories and the angels’ glories

My favourite would be a toss up of two,

First the tale of the pure white angels

With their wings tucked in, out of view.

***

The second favourite, now let me see

That would be those poor fallen souls,

The fallen angels with their wings torn

Those that believed in minor loopholes.

***

Both sets of angels, look like you and me

Those with closed hearts, locked minds,

Will not understand or even recognise

These very unique beings as angel kind.

***

Look closely, those who are often feared

The groups that often receive your scorn,

They may have fallen but please believe

They’re love and strength, although torn.

***

Those that have so little, but still give all

Those that only offer unconditional love,

Those that try as they might, never fit in

Their home is not here, it’s up there above.

***

They are the most precious of beings

Often cast as the outsiders, the freaks,

The loners, the introverts and the lonely

Those shy individuals too scared to speak.

***

It’s those beings constantly overlooked

The quietly abused, those we all trample,

The tormented, the tortured are the same

They are the ones terrorised as an example.

***

Think twice next time you see a poor soul

And if you are fortunate enough to find,

Make the effort to befriend this outcast

Take the time to listen sincerely, be kind.

***

If your offer of friendship is to be accepted

Ensure you smile happily as you say hello,

I would suggest you treasure them dearly

And find a way to never let an angel go.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
