You made a list and
Checked it twice
Sure, you've got
Flour, sugar, and spice
But when did you last
Check the expiry dates?
And could that be the footprints of
Clock-reading mice?
*ੈ✩‧₊˚🥣*
How many drops of
Too-viscous vanilla
Constitute your
Traditional heavy pour?
Are the sort of sluggish
Thoughts now flickering
Going to induce a flaming flaw?
*ੈ✩‧₊˚🥣*
The more cups of coffee
You guzzle down
The more frantically
You scatter
Candied peel
Chocolate chips rolling underfoot
Melt under bare toes on the
Recently mopped floor
*ੈ✩‧₊˚🥣*
In the oven’s
Blazing glare
As friends and family
Shuffle in
Your pasted grin
Becomes more grim
Ears start buzzing
As mom dashes in
With claims of HELP
*ੈ✩‧₊˚🥣*
All you see is a
Whirlwind of
Slamming cabinets and
Rearranged shelves
*ੈ✩‧₊˚🥣*
Finally, the last batch is retracted
Lain upon wire racks
Dusted with sugary snow
Ahhhh, the whole house
Smells like love

My favorite holiday time viewing is Elf, because Elf, and holiday baking shows. The food and desserts people make around the holidays are the most decadent and beautiful of the year. Folks who rarely cook or bake try their hand at spreading cheer with the culinary arts.

Some of my fondest memories are baking with my Mom when I was a youngster. I had all the prep work. It didn't seem like fun all the time, but looking back now...golden! Heartfelt poem!
