nail in the coffin

a poem

you were held on puppet strings

while I was assigned

wipe other people’s butts

even though I had more knowledge in my head

than anyone else there

as theory has always been my strong suit

despite reluctance to accept

power based on emptiness

this led me to avoid things

and it was poorly received

but the only reason was injustice

seeing things in the wrong rhythm

black and white, but still

undoubtedly denied

as if they were pie in the sky

eaten at the wrong time

before dinner, as I usually do

so I can swallow it through my

sensitive taste buds

surrounded by the darkest night

my thoughts became

the darkest too

I waited the longest

until the investigation is completed

but instead

it nailed me down

the coffin was prepared for two long years

and now I have been culled down

designed to be the one

out of my needs and wants

where you played the main role

and even if it was a long time ago

it still hurts and the effects will be audible

forever in my heart

were you the one who had it?

take revenge on me

in someone’s behalf?

if it’s about it, well

I hope it was worth it

Interesting look into the psyche. Resentment coupled with a tad of anger. Nicely done. Congratulations on TS

    Congrats on TS!

  • "If you've done nothing wrong you have nothing to worry about," said many a detective to innocent men, women & children now sitting behind bars. Ah, the vendetta, when someone comes after you, often for reasons completely unknown or unfathomable, & simply will not let up until either you or they are gone. In three of my five appointments to parishes there was at least one person who did everything they could to get rid of me. At our going away celebration for a place I'd served for nine years (an extremely long time for small church rural appointments in The United Methodist Church), one woman who hated me before she ever met me was heard to say, "Well, I finally got rid of Randy. Now if I can just get rid of...." For immigrants, it's so often even tougher. Locals too often presume that because of accent or language barrier & the fact they haven't known them that they must be ignorant & foolish when often the immigrant is the most thoughtful, intelligent & well-schooled person in the room if not entire area. How often do we hear of professionals (doctors, teachers, lawyers, etc.) working as janitors or in the service industry because the local professional associations have not yet recognized their credentials? My heart goes out to you, Mescaline, for all the challenges you must face where you are & my deepest & most sincere apologies for my complicity in them.
