My Truth

A poem

By Shannon E. MackPublished 8 months ago 1 min read

The truth about love is that it does not need to be earned.

But it is also not owed to you.

The only soul you’re required to love in this lifetime…

Is your own.

That’s where it begins.

That’s where it returns.

To place your heart in your own hands,

And merely offer it,

Not to be taken,

but simply seen.

That is the act of courage.

Even if your hands tremble.

Even if you fear it may be broken.

You can always pull it back.

Back to where it belongs.

Back to yourself.

And that’s not weakness.

That’s reverence.
