My time at Clarkston

Once upon a spring

By Sandra’s cornerPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

Three weeks, running into four now

Wondering how I lasted this long

With only one human companion

The rest came as a surprise

A city girl, I accepted my inevitable fate

Without much to ponder

Spring came early with a lot of setbacks

Most days it was cold,

Some with more sunshine

The days last longer, nights seemed shorter

But amazing things started to happen

It seemed there are more things to stop my brains from going nuts

It started with dandelions

It’s just those yellow things you noticed

When you looked outside the window

Then the violets,

Not to forget the forget me nots

Yellows, blues and whites

The scents of the Hyacinths and Lily of the valleys

The awesome colors of the Tulips

Red, yellow, white and orange

Plus the birds that gazed over us in the winds as we ate our meals

The ever constant blackbird with its companions

Turtle doves, cardinals, red finch, yellow finch

Woodpeckers, tattermouths, blue jays , blue birds

The turtle that got lost

Cute chipmunks

The amazing deers with their white tails

The rabbits with their long ears

The obnoxious ground hogs

And it’s useless trap

The attack of the bees and the black ants

All these made up the forest

The forest that eased my restless mind

And make my spring break from city life livable

A prison dreaded, but instead

It gave me warmth and peace

For sure I’ll never forget it

My short time at Clarkston.
