My Sunny Bunny
The first poem I have written in a long time

I spent my life having no clue
How much I was missing,
How much I would love you.
You were not the first,
Second, or third.
But along you came and
There you were.
It was a cold winter day
I had to keep you close.
I needed you warm
For the long ride home.
I knew you were scared
And hadn’t asked to come,
But when I first saw you
I knew you were the one.
Snuggled in my sleeve
on a journey to the unknown
Since that day, oh, you have grown.
I giggled like a schoolgirl
At everything thing you did,
Your little chirps and flapping wings,
Even the Poops on my bed.
Oh, Sunny! You have me wrapped
around your tiny little beak.
Your first fly,
your inquisitive eyes,
Your love for adventures
and hand-fed treats.
I call you Sunny because
You warm my heart.
Even though you are grown now,
I love more than I did from the start.

About the Creator

After a year in an MFA, I am facing my fears of becoming a full-time writer. I journal about my experiences, share resources that are helpful in writing, and eventually will share short fiction and other creative pieces.
