My Second Home
Water water everywhere
As I plunge into its deep blue depths
My eyes close in delighted bliss
The coolness sweeps around me
Engulfing my inflamed body
I feel weightless in it’s expanse
Free to swim and play to my hearts content
I dip my head under to and notice
Green plants swaying to my strokes
I watch my hair trail around me
As I float on its shiny blue surface
My face is warmed by the sun
Yet cooled in this aqua embrace
Again I dive down into darkness
How far do I dare to go?
The light dims as I swim deeper
What will l find in this sunken world
I should have been a mermaid
So great is my love of water
Exploring vast bottomless oceans
Feeling as one with its sea life
Would I be friends with great whales?
Perhaps join with the dolphin pods?
Or travel the seas with pirate ships
But not as a famed siren… of course!
Or maybe I’d live in the rivers
That span our great southern land
And visit deserts or the tropics
Along with snowy mountain lakes
As I dream and swim I see bubbles
Those tiny circles of glass-like air
Spin and drift to the light of the surface
And I guess it’s time I joined them
I reluctantly rise on the waves
As the tides carry me in to the shore
I search for my towel on the now damp sand
As the sun sinks lower and lower
Already I’m planning my next foray to this:
My second home.
About the Creator
Linda Bromley
Just one of many creative outlets for me has been books! My whole life I’ve loved them and it’s so easy to make the jump to writing.
Recently I completed a poetry challenge and now, looking for more excuses to write, I’ve found myself here!
