My Rod, My Pen, and Me

Valleys

By SchmalzPublished 2 years ago 1 min read

The sun rose in the East

And took you away from me

You were heading South of the border

In this lonesome canyon I lay down to dream

Just my rod, my pen, and me

So I walk through the mountains

And it's here I’ll spend all my days

Fishing and writing my blues away

Find me down

In some deep dark valley

Listening to the stormy breeze

Canyon walls that surround me

And a river to float away my dreams

Just my rod, my pen, and me

Walking down the canyon walls

Gives me shelter and feels like home

All the trout come flying out for me

So I’ll write about my little canyon

Until I wrap around the bend

That brings you back to me

I’ll cast a line and pretend I’m fine

Like a fly placed before eternity

My line will dance across the sky

Just my rod, my pen, and me

Listen to

Chickadees singing a soft melody

Alone in this canyon I’m as loved as I could be

A smile on my face and a tear in my eye

Am I lonesome or a fond memory

All the rattlesnakes want to follow me

Around the bend I can’t see

Just to find

The purple rays on the canyon

And when I cross that river

I’ll see your glossy hair waiting for me

With that twinkle in your eye

And the moon by your side

No longer will it be

Just my rod, my pen, and me

love poems
