My Purse Is Empty
My purse is empty
you robbed me again
said you’d stop
you never do
out all night
down the pub
cards and lies
till morning comes.
I work
you don’t
I feed us both
you bet the rest
you steal it all.
You laugh like it’s nothing
said it’s only a tenner
said I wouldn’t miss it
said I’m lucky you stay
I count every coin I have too.
I skip lunch to cover rent
I wear old shoes
while you boast
and light another smoke
with my last note
You talk big
you do nothing
you promise
I see through it
I know where the fivers go
I know what your mates say
I know I’m tired
But still
I boil your tea
still I wait
and hate myself for it
still you steal and grin.
And all I know
is my purse is emptied
yet again
