My Plight
It’s been said that time cures agony,
Of losing a pet or friend or member of the family.
I’m not sure that time has that kind of power,
As I sit awaiting a touch or some heavenly shower.
It wasn’t supposed to have happened this way,
Leaving me here teary-eyed from day to day.
I can’t help that I feel this lonely burden,
But I’m told in time it will weaken for certain.
There’s still a strong bond that pulls and tugs,
One that brings with it memories of hugs.
Grassy meadows, tree canopies overhead,
Sway with the years of emotions tied to my earthy thread.
It’s said that no two were ever alike,
Some ran, some rode, some tinkered day and night.
Whether skilled or not, we did things in spite.
To keep others watching whether wrong or right.
Thick shadows of our yesterdays wash over my face,
It takes me away to a different time and place.
Unaware that I could’ve stayed if I wanted,
I felt tomorrow’s waters, tainted and haunted.
I’m not sure that I’ll ever pass through,
The wall of forgetfulness as so many others do.
But if it’s not my destiny to linger here longer,
Then rush to my aid with a hope that’s stronger.
So I write these lines in the emptiness of time,
Spreading out my soul for all that is kind.
Take a part of me back to those over there,
And tell them that it’s not just me, but all of us care.
If time is the deliverer, as I’ve been told,
Then come now, take my sorrow, show me you’re bold.
For my words continually fail me as I sit empty-handed.
Pressing against the veil speaking loudly and candid.
My spirit’s torn asunder from the left and the right,
Pouring out words on paper, concealing my plight.
For it’s a far better place that I’m trying to see,
Than where I sit here now crushed and empty.
