My October
A cold snip at the nape of my neck, alerting me that those warm summer nights are truly starting to fade. “Prepare as Jack Frost will soon make his entrance”, I’m reminded with every blow of the wind. Trees begin to change color, listen for the rustle of fallen leaves as I make my way through the day. Pumpkin patches, football, trick or treating, just some activities you bring that causes a seasonal smile that only comes around this time of year. The air more crisp, the perfect time to start bringing out the cozy sweaters. How are you so welcoming and yet so darkly twisted? Your shadows a deeper darkness that lays the foundation for children’s nightmares. Listen for the howl of a werewolf as the full moon shines a warning from the sky. We must watch over our shoulder as shadows attempt to consume us from every dimly lit alley. You bring the uneasy feeling of being watched by unseen eyes, causing chills to run down my spine. Yes, my October you know how to love and torture me in the best ways possible. I welcome your amazing spooky season with open arms.
