My Nature Spirit

A poem celebrating my connection with nature.

By Susan L. MarshallPublished 5 years ago 3 min read

Sunrise greets my soul,

its golden rays warming

the depths of my being.

Actively present,

I am alert to the energy

in the atmosphere.

-

Lifting, the gentle breeze

caresses my face,

reminding me I am alive.

Stretching out my arms,

I attune myself to

the new day’s rhythm.

-

Freshly mown grass,

in cut green stalks,

roll across the meadow.

As the wind shifts,

they are propelled

high into the air.

-

As the wind drops,

the stalks fall,

landing on my bare feet.

There they stay,

present and existing,

full of vibrant energy.

-

Travelling with me,

clinging to my feet,

the determined stalks

desire a new vision.

-

I am present and alive,

my soul soars high.

The simple wonders

of nature

alight a warm,

yellow fire in my heart.

-

Yellow, a cheery colour,

like shining sunlight.

A colour I yearn to reach

and be warmed by

at least once a day.

-

My skin glows in the yellow,

tingling with rejuvenation.

My energy is returning,

I am lightweight and free.

-

Treading gently,

I show the stalks

my view of the meadow.

A chance to share

nature's tiny wonders.

-

Silvery-blue wings,

flutter by gently.

A butterfly rides

the wispy breeze,

like a surfer out at sea.

To witness this moment

is pure, sheer joy.

-

Alighting my arm,

the butterfly settles.

Standing on one leg,

it cleans itself gently.

It is so precious,

a beautiful being,

that makes my heart

swell with deep love.

-

The butterfly ascends

high into the blue sky.

I wave as it departs,

wishing it happiness.

-

Tickling my feet,

the grass stalks depart.

Rolling across the meadow,

the stalks vanish into

a vibrant field of red.

Bright, crimson roses,

freshly bloomed.

-

Nature is a spell

that holds me close,

caresses me gently.

Its colourful tapestry

evokes my spirit,

which is invited to join

the rose red petals.

They are dancing,

nodding in the wind,

reaching out to connect ...

with me!

-

Swaying and turning,

I dance in the red sea

of newly bloomed petals.

Zing! Goes my heart,

radiating with joy.

Laughing, my tension

dissipates and vanishes,

swallowed by the breeze.

-

Lying amidst rose petals

who continue to sway

in a field of red life,

I sigh with relief.

My heart is warmed

by wise nature’s

vibrant, healing spirit.

-

Staring up,

my eyes rest upon

a sacred treasure.

Gnarled, wise branches

of an old eucalyptus tree,

reach out to me,

inviting me to climb.

-

Ascending the trunk,

I believe it whispers

a special message

for me to hear.

Words that reach

the very depths of

my healing soul,

which yearns to play

outside in the air,

the yellow rays.

-

I swing off a branch,

feeling the lightness

of hanging and swinging

through the calm air.

Green leaves brush

against my hands,

keeping me alert

and actively present.

-

Dropping to the ground,

I land on the grass.

It is wet with dew drops,

its green blades unfurling

to welcome the morning.

-

I can feel the sun

warming my back

as I walk through the grass

and stare at the clear,

cerulean blue sky.

-

Out in this meadow,

time stops

and lets me truly be.

Away from the daily grind,

my spirit is free

to immerse itself in life.

-

I could stay here forever,

soaking up the rays,

giving myself time to heal.

Taking time to reflect

on the precious beauty

of small wonders.

-

I feel deep gratitude

in the depths of my unique

heart and soul,

for my nature spirit.

It keeps me grounded,

renewing my zest for life.
