My Marble Man
Is it possible to fall in love with your creation?
Is it possible to fall in love with your creation? Not in the way a mother would love her child, or an artist would love their new painting, but the way a woman loves her soulmate.
She got into the most prestigious art college in France and was studying sculpting. Ariadne has been working on her creation for three months now and took great pride in it. Ever since she was a teenager, she had dreams of a man made of marble and she fell in love with him immediately. She thought she had gone insane, but the man never left her dreams. She would talk to him about her aspirations, her long exhausting days at school and eventually, their love for each other. Her dreams were her favorite part of the day and she always looked forward to the picnics in the gardens when Adonis whispered sweet nothings into her ear.
And now, she finally perfected her sculpting. She got lucky when their new assignment was to make a sculpture inspired by ancient greece. It was the perfect time to sculpt the love of her dreams. She made sure every inch was perfect and spent every night studying Adonis’s face. Every square inch of his flawless clear skin. He’d smile at her and ask her what was wrong whenever she’d stare for too long, and she’d simply reply, “You’re absolutely perfect my love.” She even snuck into the art room after classes to continue her artwork. Her life couldn’t be more perfect, but that changed the following night.
She made herself some of her favorite mint tea to drink as she read her leather-bound book. When the words started bleeding together and her eyes drooped, she turned her lamp off and fell into a deep slumber. But for the first time in ten years, it wasn’t Adonis waiting for her. Instead, she found a pale, dark-haired man leaning against one of the garden trees. One of his hands was in his pocket but the other was hanging at his side, blood staining his pale fingers.
He spotted her in an instant and smiled in recognition. “Maybe this kind of revenge really is better.”
