My Life in Purple” By Hannah Shaw
I see purple everywhere,
Purple thoughts, purple visions, purple dreams.
I shed purple tears.
Purple rain pours out of the ethers
As I gaze up to the heavens.
Lavender tears stream down my velvet cheeks
And shatter into a thousand tiny pieces,
Under my amethyst footing.
Pain is the only thing certain,
In my monster purple macrocosm.
I catch glimpse of a butterfly,
Magenta wings flutter past the violets, orchids, lilacs,
That emerge suddenly from cracks in the indigo terrain.
Signs of hope?
Freedom from my purple haze?
My world rumbles.
A faint object appears in the clouds,
Violet arc.
Promising hues, indigo, blue?
Green, yellow, orange, red.
Cosmic rays of healing light
Penetrate my purple aura.
I saw purple everywhere,
Purple thoughts, purple visions, purple dreams...
Now I dream in every color. 🌈
~ I sincerely hope you enjoyed my poem! I would like to provide some brief background info now that you have read it. The color purple has become associated with fibromyalgia and chronic pain. I have lived with chronic pain from fibromyalgia and another condition called bilateral SI joint dysfunction for about 10 years. My physical health issues took a great emotional toll on me, and nearly destroyed my life. I fought my way out of an exceedingly difficult place. While chronic pain is still a large part of my life I must manage; I no longer let it dictate my plans, my goals, my emotions and my dreams. Instead, I use my experiences and insight about chronic pain to spread awareness, and to advocate for others who are suffering. This was my inspiration behind writing this piece. I am a Licensed Social Worker and new self-published author starting out. I have some big ideas and hope to write another book in the future. I recently published, Still I Rise: My Journey to Conquer Chronic Pain. It is available on Amazon and Barnes and Noble Press. Thank you for reading and considering my work in this contest!! It would help tremendously!~ 💜
