Loss without being

I have a friend

He's not real

An imaginary friend

O ~ o ~

I have a friend

He came and went in an instant

I feel the pain of separation

O ~ o ~

I have a friend

Who's neither male nor female

Yet I think of him

O ~ o ~

My friend cannot feel

Cannot love

He is not there

O ~ o ~

Even the he is imaginary

But imagination is real right?

He is because he isn't

O ~ o ~

I talk about him

Like he is there

Like he exists within

O ~ o ~

I can feel him

In his absence

Feel the loss

O ~ o ~

He has no name

Let's call him Valentine

My funny Valentine

O ~ o ~

I wonder what happens

To friends who never were

When they are gone

O ~ o ~

Does he dream?

o ~ o ~ o ~

Only of Neverland. Love the poem, Raymond. It wanders around playing with ideas the way I so often like to do.

  • Hmmm, this felt so sad and introspective. Loved it!

Good job. I think we all have a friend like this one, and some would say could it be your conscious speaking.
