My Favourite Climbing Tree
What do I hear, what do I see?
I climb my favourite tree
It’s knobbly knees making easy steps
As I pull myself from branch to branch
I reach the spot that’s made to fit my body,
And I caress the sweet damp moss that is my pillow!
As I lie there I look through the canopy of sunlit leaves and spot fantastical things
Like an elephant floating by on the wings of a sparrow
And tradie gnomes mending a faded rainbow
A group of dwarfs picnicking in a flowering meadow
And pixie children chasing fireflies
While nearer my hiding, place at the base of my tree
I hear squirrels and fairies arguing as they fight over acorns
I sleepily smile and shake my head as the cool breeze rustles the strands of my hair
It disrupts the ladybird that has settled on my sleeve and I see her cross her arms and “hmph” hotly
I look upwards and delight in the marine blue sky
Wait a minute, is that a mermaid I saw just saw flying overhead? There she is again, her brunette locks shining in the sunlight and streaming behind her like luscious thick smoke
I stretch my stiff limbs and find the afternoon has turned to dusk as my imagination soared to worlds unknown
Only returning with the setting sun kissing my face and I know it’s time to climb my way home
About the Creator
Linda Bromley
Just one of many creative outlets for me has been books! My whole life I’ve loved them and it’s so easy to make the jump to writing.
Recently I completed a poetry challenge and now, looking for more excuses to write, I’ve found myself here!
