My Favorite Part of the Day

When we woke up the other day

you told me it was your favorite part of the day

being together, first thing in the morning

You asked me if it was mine

I said that it was one of mine

I needed to think about my favorite

So I thought about it

There were many possibilities

But then it struck me what it was

It's when you arrive home from work

I hear the rumble of the tires of your car coming up the driveway

I feel that sense of anticipation of us touching

I hear the car door slam

I watch you getting your things out of the car

I watch as you walk up to the house

*

And soon we are in each other arms

That special hug and kiss for when we've been apart

That is my favorite part of the day
