My Favorite Cup
An Ekphrastic Sonnet

Philip Burne-Jones, "The Vampire," 1897
Granted, I have quite a drinking problem
But it’s eccentric, marginalized, strange;
As surely as red leaves fall in autumn
When I’m thirsty, I want you in close range

I am a hemoglobin connoisseur
I need the red, but not all reds will do;
Urgency can make differences blur
When I can choose, darling, I will choose you

It’s not the pace of clotting, or the type
Your cholesterol is less than ideal
They say the smoke is altered by the pipe
Through you, my beverage flows raw and real

Some parasites fall in love with their hosts
From you, favorite cup, I’ll drink sweet toasts

Spooky and clever!! A brilliant D.J. addition to thee Vocal Halloween spirit :)
A clear voice in this one, D. J. - suave, controlled, a hint of menace. Just how I would imagine a vampire to speak. It made me chuckle too with the comments about cholesterol and smoke, like a sanguine sommelier.
Who though up such poetry types, eck. Hut it exercises the brain. I think I will try one. Poets and metaphors...what a pair. Lovely.
Oh wow, I've never thought of humans being a cup to vampires! That was genius!
That was clever, and I found it funny
