My Eyes Are Like Windows
What is a Window? What is a Mirror?

When I was I younger
My father taught me this trick
Surround yourself with imaginary mirrors
May the harmful gaze of others, bounce right off
~
When I was younger
I’d get too affected by others
By movies, books, and shows
By the intensity in the household
~
When I was younger
I’d walk into a room and feel like
The whole space imploded and I
Was to take every hit of shard to heart
~
When I was younger
My father told me to
Build a reflecting dome around myself
So that bad things wouldn’t touch me
~
When I was younger
I took things to heart too much
As I’m older
I’m trying not to take things to heart so much
~
But I am all open doors
Taintless, windows
Dinner set on the table for every stranger
Never shying away from a chance of connection
~
This poem was written for a poetry prompt session that I did with Melissa Ingoldsby! This was a very interesting and vague prompt, but it was cool to see what we made of it. Her poem is linked here, enjoy!
