My Dear Brother

An announcement about his death that's left me feeling bereft

A few days ago my brother passed away.

***

My dear brother

I am distraught

over your death

only the other day.

The way you were found,

cold, frail, and probably

afraid,

will stay in my mind

forever.

I will miss you

always.

I will never forget

our long chats

our conversations

on matters

of the past,

life in general,

the regrets of your past,

left behind,

times scorned

as you became a new

clean man walking

a new path.

Growing up

you were always

the brother

I laughed with,

your jokes infectious,

your smiling face

strong,

your intense blue eyes

sparkling brightly

making everyone smile.

In the last year,

you came into our

lives more frequently

and now you're gone

I am left to mourn

on my own.

I will feel the loss

deeply and sadly.

I will mourn your death

dear brother, always.

The shock of your passing

is sudden and raw

leaving me bereft

and sore.

Rest in peace

dear sweet brother.

Remember me always

as I will remember you.
