I was born a rainbow
the red faded at 6 years old
through a mother's frustration
"Why can't you be normal?"
Orange vanished when I was 8
through a father's phrase
"A girl can't do that"
Yellow dimmed when I was 10
through a sister's remark
"Stop being weird and you'll have friends"
Green became obsolete when I was 12
through a friend's advice
"Dress like this and boys will like you"
Indigo disappeared when I was 14
through a teacher's scolding
"What do you expect, dressed like that?"
Violet departed when I was 16
when an authoritative figure responded
"you deserved it"
I lost my rainbow
My daughter was born a rainbow
the red brightened at 6 years old
through a mother's comfort
"Embrace your true colors and show the world how you shine."
