My Dark Comfort

What makes me comfortable

It may sound strange to some

But I find comfort in the dark

When a sunny day turns to gray

When the storm moves in and clouds

Hide the light, I listen to the wind and rain

Feeling cozy and content

I pour myself a steaming cup of coffee

Inhaling the pleasant aroma

I pull a blanket around me

Taking in the sound of rumbling thunder

As a child, a storm meant the possibility of relying on

A candle for light

To me, candles were magical portals through time

I could be a Victorian girl in a giant house full of antiques

Dark days are a good reason to ponder, to read and relax

They remain my dark comfort
