I am the color of the teen they counted out in statistics
making a couple listings
by becoming a mother young
I am the color of..
The kid killed with no weapon
by those sworn in to protect him
But instead of rejecting the best of life
just seeing red
ready to dive in head first to the blackest
part of my soul
instead i see the rose that grows through concrete
and all its cousins
flowers busting through the cracks of their hardships
backs arching,
feeling the warmth of light after knowing darkness
who knew they had the strength to travel farthest
from loss and the cost of living
instead of lost and livid
I'm of the garden that learned to Love and Jug jaded
accepting life being honest
in a whisper that life isn't promised
I am the color of her....
who walked in marches alongside those that don't look like me
hearing the live chatter
yelling my life matters
It was the collection of colors
painting the same picture
now news just in
time applied and its Justice
just in time to save nations last breath of hope
and culp with the fact it took colors to move a Nation
past segregation and patterns of modern enslavement
Together we are clarity in tears of joy
that stream down cheeks of different shades
made to give a different stripe on our rainbow
how can we stay low
when some bring rhythm of drums
or tunes carrying rhythms of blues
or flutes and violins
how can we stop stuck in the midst when
we live together in rock, pop, and hip hop
tunes and choose a color painting
pictures we escape in
that tell stories of experiences
not stopping at experiments of likeness explosions of spices
and smells just adding something different
that fills the frame of life
i should be the jaded type
But i'm one of the few that
choose a path less walked
crossed by those that don't just see in Black & White
But the Love in colors some lack in life
seeing the colors and loving it...makes us different
