My City

A beautiful community marred by corruption

I love my city on the Northwestern coast,

Enclosed by mountains and the ocean’s sound.

One of its qualities that I like the most

Is that urban and natural life, here, are bound.

But even a wonderland will have its faults

And a few certainly trouble me;

Greed and neglect are the constant assaults

In this old-fashioned town by the sea.

Our people are left to languish alone,

Forced into the streets like stray animals.

The landscape and cityscape of our home

Is littered with rotting trash and used needles.

These tragedies are what capitalism drives

By placing profits before human lives.
