My Brown Skin

By Natalia Howell

By Natalia HowellPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

Ever since I was a kid.

Folks had problems with my brown skin

I am 1 carbon, maybe they feel I robbed them: it’s science.

I’m biblical like this poem I’m lyrical.

I am 1 neutron, 1 proton and 1 electron

There’s the big secret to why I’m too strong

That’s a recipe for a star, see I’m destined to go too far

Ceilings don’t exist to me; I create what I want for me

As a kid I’m told my skin is a sin

But sitting in my skin I take my L’s with a grin

And still I’m getting win after win.

Watch how you talk to me, my blessing are coming in

Please don’t try and talk to me after you get over my brown skin

While society is scared because I’m about to reclaim

All my heirs, it’s Carpe Omnia

I’m coming for all of ya, Going to keep starving ya

It took time to get to this place.

All my blood, sweat and, tears are seen on this face

With No family, no fears, now let me make this clear:

I have no time for your fakeness and blemishes to appear

You don’t have to like me, but I’m here

Respect me

I’m straight forward and honest, like my brown skin it’s flawless

But I do my best to try not to stress

It’s brown skin that makes me “BE BEST”

inspirational
