My Bloody Beating Heart
Gory, bloody and distasteful or something beautiful?
If you took my beating heart out of my body,
Still connected, and working, but clearly visible
You would see, the signs would be tangible
The way I react to your mind, soul and body
-
My heart beating faster, my blood pressure rising
You may call it gory, all bloody and distasteful
In its own special way, though, I say it's beautiful
My heart beating faster and constantly resizing
-
Your intellect, wisdom and the fact that you care
The way you believe in me, push and support me
Your deep love of animals, art, crafts and the sea
Your curves, your smile and your soft blonde hair
-
Although we've been through so many ups and downs
and though the bad days have been far too many to count
We're still together, facing problems as they surmount
And when you are near, my heartbeat still loudly sounds.
This was my response to a Vocal + Assist Facebook Group writing challenge.
The theme of the poem is Blood Pressure and use the word Beautiful and a word that rhymes with it in the poem.
