my biggest critic

no one would tell you that i am unkind.

but i can be so mean.

when the storm clouds overtake the depths of my mind.

when i'm alone in my room.

when the weight of regret overloads my chest.

i want to forgive myself.

i want to cast the blame on anyone but the reflection in the mirror.

she looks back at me with an aching emptiness,

of what could've been.
