After a boring and tiring day at work,
I made good of the night still young.
Though cold and silent,
Still I left to get my mind unstrung.
Sauntering down the old, wooden bridge around the corner,
I enjoyed nature’s gifts with my music in my ears.
Humming to the glorious sounds,
I enjoyed the rhythm, feeling my aches disappear.
At the end of the bridge,
There stood a sight so sweet.
A young woman, vivacious and fiery.
The sight that made me stop my feet.
Almost blinded by her beauty,
She shone like the sun in the dark.
Nothing like I’ve ever seen before,
She just stood there, my beautiful spark.
She didn’t look real.
Almost like a “mami wata,” beautiful and dangerous.
Curiosity struck as I watched the angel,
Compelling me to move closer to the creature so desirous.
I had to ask her why she was alone,
Her voice, once she spoke, sounded pure and perfect.
“Waiting for a bike to take me home”
And said nothing further on the subject.
Wanting to know more of her,
I offered to walk her down.
I prayed she wouldn’t reject me,
My smile fading to a frown.
Her sweet face scrunched up in thought,
She was carefully mulling over my proposition,
Wondering if I genuinely meant it,
She eventually said yes, her face full of anticipation.
My stomach began to flutter,
My smile appearing, brighter than ever.
The beautiful angel said yes to me,
That moment would stay with me forever.
Walking down the dark road,
We filled the air with our chatter,
As we got to know one another,
We could hear the rain begin to patter.
We exchanged numbers, happy with knowing one another,
And spoke about meeting again.
Watching her walk inside her home,
The absence of her presence left a little pain.
Once I started walking away,
I realised I felt extremely joyous.
This feeling was the beginning of love,
Even though it sounds quite boyish.
My day had taken a wondrous turn,
As I had left for home with this new feeling,
I couldn’t believe my luck right now,
It felt like my heart was healing.
It really felt like love,
It felt so new to me.
Didn’t know if the feelings were true,
I felt like I was floating on the sea.
I could already picture our life together,
The life of wedded bliss.
I longed for nothing more than that life,
The yearning was too strong for this.
As I lay down to go to sleep,
Her beautiful image crossed my mind,
The last thing I saw before I fell asleep,
She was the ending I had to find.
