One day, you’re sitting in your apartment, or your shared house, or your camper van
And you’re realizing just how big the world is
It felt when you were a child, that you were held at every step
Then one day, the hand slipped away
But you didn’t notice for miles and miles
Time fleetingly passed
You were pleasantly distracted by proms, graduations, achievements, milestone moments
They propelled you far beyond your teen years
High off the momentum, you are just coming down
The prom dress was the graduation was the new job was the new apartment was the moving away was the searching for love was the finding your passions was the making connections was the trying new things
The breakup was the new beginning was the breakup was the new beginning was the breakup
You look around at the things you’ve collected, the moments you’ve shared, the journeys you’ve made
And they disintegrate into the lone shadow trailing behind you
You wonder who would let a child be so alone?
You turn your head beyond for the first time again, knowing the truth
And all the sudden your feet are sore, the sun is setting, and you are gutted by the idea of tonight leading to tomorrow
