Music Box Memory

Christmas relived

By Barb DukemanPublished about a year ago 1 min read

Maple frame, pretty little girl with a kerchief,

holding a basket in a field of green.

A perfect Christmas present

The last one from a chilly New York Christmas

I was just eight years old

and that music box played a song I knew

An ornament inside – an antiqued silver glass star –

A star of warmth and hope

The past can’t be rewound like that music box,

The song still playing in my memory

Sticky cinnamon memories attached

On my wedding day, the song played

As I danced with my dad

The same song from the box

Of a Christmas long ago

It’s those memories that keep me warm

When times grow colder

As we grow older

A star to remind us

That hope is but a moment away

Locked in a memory

Waiting to be set free.

Stardust is all around us

Sparkling and filling

Our heads with unending love

Open the box and set it free.
