so many things, all most everything,

Doesn’t make sense.

The pain.

The sorrow.

The rain.

Science.

Fiction.

Tomorrow.

So many wandering thoughts, chasing themselves into understanding and finding none.

Running wild until you’re just gliding in mud.

The planets hold themselves.

The earth dances around the moon.

I never understood.

Until I met the caterpillar.

Little and magnificent.

She lives her whole life going only one speed,

with a distance never reaching beyond the leaf.

The caterpillar only knows, what the caterpillar knows.

It’s perception is it’s reality.

What’s in view, is it’s normality.

Our brains can’t fathom what it can’t see,

or what it can or can’t be.

What our minds create still can’t create

the unfathomable.

The caterpillar begins to fade,

it may think it’s life is over;

Until it’s not.

Until it stops.

Bursting into wings and soaring above,

its home; the one leaf it’s only ever known.

Now, behold the things it is shown,

things like buildings, cars and trains,

humans, stars, and planes,

……The unfathomable tree.

The caterpillar is me.
