Mr. Grimm and the Balanced Scales
A Poem on Justice
Fairness speaks up. -Michelle Liew
************************************************
Mr. Grimm, ageless and bizarre,
He never took a side
He listened, door to his ears ajar,
To each townsfolk's needy plight.
************************************************
Each one came, before him laid bare
Convinced that he was right;
He weighed their needs on a Truth scale fair
Their needs always in his sight.
************************************************
They brought to him their timeless woes,
Disputes and shattered vows--
Believed the scales, that they would know
That fairness would come now
************************************************
To the scales, the folk brought forth
A child who stole some bread
A rich man, who laid down his laws
Wanted the child's due dread
************************************************
The scales weighed, for the child they tipped
His hunger too tight to bear,
The rich man, who always hoarded food
Was deemed selfish and unfair.
************************************************
Mr. Grimm was gone, the scales remained
Never to be used:
Only he could guide the way they weighed
And the wisdom of the truth.

Well done, Michelle. Hopefully the scales of justice will prevail, against the greedy.
Oh no, with him gone, how can people get justice?
Excellent poem, only a person with a good heart can weigh right with the scale.
Such a great poem, Michelle! Is this for a challenge?

I like this but the ending confused me - scales not to be used, he is gone but only he could guide the way - are you saying without him they can't weigh the truth? but the child had the weight in his favor.
