Mourning, Sun

Moment of Mortal Truth

My first... one of my last... a moment I will never forget...

When I held you in my arms that final time... our eyes met... and for a moment, despite the months/years of torment and pain… I knew you had transcended it all...

Yet, your conscience remained.

Like so many I have been the sole witness to before, you did not want to leave, and that stubborn nature of yours endured...

You knew no suffering. No screaming sting. Only love... for you... in want... for me... out of regret...

For us.

And then, as the sun was coming up... you were gone...

...

But I was not lost.
