“Mother, oh mother”

Safe travels

By Yalisa MatosPublished 15 days ago 2 min read
The nest is empty

You seek adventures and quests.

Though you are radiant and blessed,

This travel is for the days you went without rest.

A beautiful moment to realize all your birds are out of your nest.

You’ve stayed in a place where you didn’t belong.

I’ve seen your strength, I’ve seen you strong.

You deserve to fly and soar to places you’ve never been before!

You’ve taken us under your wing and carried us through it all, but we’re free birds now.

And so are you…

Travel beyond the land and sea.

Travel beyond self-doubt and uncertainty.

Travel the world and tell me all about it.

Life will feel sweet when you’re your own pilot.

Now you might not want to go because you’re worried.

What will we do, where would we be?

Haven’t you spent most of your time worrying?

I’m a mother now and I’ve seen what it takes.

I understand all your long nights, I get you had no breaks.

I understand the mom guilt from making mistakes.

But mom, this is your time now to chase what you seek.

Aging is beautiful, you’re just at the peak.

Put your makeup on, keep your style it’s chic.

I’ll be home waiting to hear in the exciting tone you’ll speak.

About how your mindset has shifted.

You’ll explained all you were sacrificing so us four remained gifted.

I’m sorry I can’t take the time back, you felt unwanted by me.

I was a kid confused as to why things were happening to me.

Why did Dad leave ? Why were you both so unhappy?

You tried to hide the truth with fun and laughter.

You had to forget who you once were so you can try to survive.

You sat there wondering why you didn’t end up with the love of your life.

You can’t look back no more because your children are grown.

So it’s time to redeem the time you lost to make it your own.

I know you’ll find yourself once more.

You’re passionate about your children, which I can adore.

But as you’ve told me once before,

“You’re pretty, smart, kind, and brave, let the world see you are everything better.”

One thing I hope is that maybe you’ll read this letter.

P.S my first poem to my mom

Roses are red, violets are blue, my heart and my head, only choose to love you. I love you, Mommy, that love is true. I hope one day I can be just like you.
