Mother Moon

A poem in ode to the Moon, my second mother

Moon, oh Moon

How I once loved to walk under you

Hoping that your gentle rays of light might grant me a boon

Blossoming like a moon lily, oh how I grew

You watched silently as my heart grieved on long nights

But I always felt your mother’s embrace

As a child I was terrified of heights

But never the night, with your beautiful grace

You shined bright and beckoned me home

Even when those crossroads deceived my feet

Under your light I was given free roam

Hoping one day we might meet

Would you love me like a newborn son?

Could you make me feel whole?

Or would you tell me to face the sun?

Because only she could fill that hole.
