More Than One and Less Than Everything
it is hopeful

One,
and we meet
ourselves
in the recurring
dream
where we despair,
“We’ve been here before,
haven’t we?”
~
Facing the sunlit peak,
we are bare,
so small, and unknowing.
We are bitter
that there
will always be
another painstaking
climb.
~
It is humbling.
It is terrifying.
It is a lie.
~
“We’ve been here before,
haven’t we?”
echoes throughout
the valley
behind us,
and if we gaze closely
at past
impressions, the illusion
is broken.
~
We are not bare,
rather released
of unserving stress.
~
We are not so small,
rather liminality’s
guest.
~
We are not unknowing,
rather certain
of growth’s uncertainty.
~
One,
and we must
meet ourselves
at the heart
of this mesa
where truth
resonates.
~
This time
will be different.
This time
will be the same.
This time
is more than one
and less than everything.
~
Like the reminiscent
gaze
of winter,
we idle here
in the middle-space
where the likeness
of our hardiest
selves thrive.
~
We are
strengthened by
the past,
unbothered by
the next ascension
because our feet
are still frozen,
however momentary.
~
One,
and we have decided
to pack lightly.
~
It is hopeful.
It is terrifying.
It is a trust in spring
to find us
when we are buried
in ambitious
dreams.
