Claws look like fingers
Dangling on the hand
Below my arm
They seem innocent
But beneath my skin
There's a monster hiding
A wolf waiting
To come out
~
I try to be good
I try to do my best
But every time my fairytale
Searches for
Happily Ever After
Grave diggers bury it
Deep below the dark
Soil of my garden
~
Wraiths and terrors chase me
In the shadows that peek out
From the cages of my prisons
I hear their laughter
Echoing off the walls
Of the foolish ways, I thought
My traitorous fangs weren't
Tearing everything apart
~
Scarlett Letters are branded
In the eyes tattooed with my sin
Demons haunt the thoughts
Where my tragedies chase me
Every breath I take in
Is a promise to forgive
Every exhale that escapes
Is a resolution to change

Oh, well done, Will. This is good
Time is not kind to us all, the way it changes some of us into a beast... very well perceived/ written/ captured!
Wow that was a provocative piece. Imagine if it was turned into a story.
Great work, Will. I could feel the torment. Well done!
I think maybe we all have that monster within although some let it leak out more than others and some are better at softening its nature. This was wonderfully penned :)
That tension between trying to be good and fighting the inner darkness is so relatable.
"Scarlett Letters are branded In the eyes tattooed with my sin" Oooo, I especially loved those lines!
This is some intense stuff. The imagery of the claws and the monster within really grabs you. It makes you think about the inner battles we all face.
